Local sports bars see massive March Madness boost

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Maverick’s Sports Grill says when big sports events coincide during a busy weekend like March Madness it can triple its normal amount of business.

On Friday, Mar. 20, the bar says its 90 seats have been completely booked between basketball and the CCHA Championship featuring the MSU Mavericks hockey team.

Avery Matejcek, a server at the bar, says that because of the rush, Maverick’s likes to make March Madness nights a special event, bringing in the Mav Machine band for a live performance to get the crowd riled up.

“For a small business it means the world to us because we’re fully booked out and obviously, we see a lot of familiar faces and new faces which is always really fun,” Matejcek said.

Minnesota State is asking fans who want to show support at the Friday hockey game to show up in their best MSU gold to show support for the home team.
