St. Peter launches online survey to set priorities for next 20 years
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) -The City of Saint Peter is asking for the community to fill out an online survey to help update its 2050 Comprehensive Plan.
The city says the feedback it receives will help will set its priorities for the next 20 years.
Some of the topics included on the survey include perceived safety for pedestrians crossing Highway 169, expanding public transit from Mankato into St. Peter, bringing new businesses to town like restaurants, hardware stores and a potential data center, new housing options, and expanding recreation options at public parks.
Leila Leonhardt, owner of Generations Boutique, says she thinks the city has already been heading in a positive direction by adding new parking downtown, and conducting surveys like this for local projects to get community feedback.
Leonhardt says one of the one things she might want to change is adding additional safeguards for pedestrians that need to cross busy roads downtown.
“I think watching people try to cross the roads over here, even though the medians. It is still is kind of scary, so maybe some lights, so that people can press the buttons, the lights flash, people know to slow down,” Leonhardt said.
Bethany Valentini, had some different priorities, when she heard the city was putting out a survey.
“I would love to see increased and ongoing investments in greenspaces, like downtown greenspaces, like small garden areas interspersed in what we have going on down here. And just an ongoing commitment to arts opportunities for children. We obviously have the art center, we have this art gallery and entertainment space,” Valentini said.
The city says for those who can’t respond online, they can pick up a paper copy at City Hall (227 South Front Street).
