Proposal would bring affordable assisted living to Motel 6 off Highway 22
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - The Mankato Planning Commission has granted the permits needed to turn the Motel 6 off Highway 22 into affordable assisted living.
During a meeting held on Wednesday, May 27, Bob Iddings, a member of the Planning Commission, said the Motel 6 would be a “great spot” for seniors.
“There’s dogs close by they can visit. There’s going to be kids across the street. Hopefully, they build that center across the street. So there’s things for the elderly to do without having to go very far. Especially disabled ones, just to be outside on a patio, just like to watch traffic. What a great location,” said Iddings.
The motel is not for sale yet. The city council must approve of the project first. That meeting is on June 8th.
Bridgewater Group, inc. wants to renovate the Motel 6, located on Highway 22, by Menards.
This comes as the demand for senior housing is growing in mankato.
According to a study by Maxfield Research and Consulting, Mankato needs at least a hundred more affordable units for seniors by 2035.
