Local nonprofit sets fundraising goal with future uncertain

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - A Mankato nonprofit is asking for community support to keep its doors open.

A Fresh Start is a group that provides furniture and other household items to people who are re-entering homes after experiencing things like homelessness, treatment, or recently being released from jail.

The group reports to have aided more than 700 households in the last six years but are struggling financially, as they’ve been passed over for many grants or donors that would normally keep an organization like theirs afloat.

“We fall in the cracks on a lot of grants because we’re not helping the homeless and we’re not getting housing. So, we fall into these cracks and we’ve run into that,” Executive Director Amy Klugherz said.

The group said their goal is to raise $45 thousand by the end of this year or their long-term future will be in doubt.
